Essential minerals for healthy teeth in children

Nezbytné minerály pro zdravé zuby u dětí

The first teeth are always a milestone for parents. But along with the joy comes questions – how
support healthy tooth development? One of the key factors is diet, especially sufficient calcium and phosphorus.

Why are these minerals so important?

Calcium is the main building block of tooth enamel and bones. Its deficiency can lead to
enamel less resistant and the natural development of teeth can be disrupted. Phosphorus works hand in hand with calcium. It helps in its absorption and promotes tooth mineralization - the process in which calcium and phosphorus are deposited in hard tooth tissue, thereby contributing to their strength and durability.

Where to find these minerals?

Foods rich in calcium: dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese), vegetables (broccoli,
kale, spinach) or nuts (almonds, sesame seeds).
Sources of phosphorus: fish (salmon, sardines), eggs, legumes, whole grain products.

Don't forget about vitamins D and K2 . Vitamin D helps absorb calcium and phosphorus, while vitamin K2 supports their proper deposition in bones and teeth. Natural sources of vitamin D are sunlight, but also fatty fish, or dietary supplements. Vitamin K2 is found, for example, in some fermented foods and also in dietary supplements.

What else affects the health of children's teeth?

Regular tooth brushing from the first tooth erupts. Limiting sweets and
sugary drinks. Regular check-ups with a dentist (from the age of 1). Drinking clean water – ideally with natural mineral content.
