How to take care of yourself after giving birth

Jak o sebe pečovat po porodu

Childbirth is a wonderful process. Without a doubt, this is one of the most physically demanding moments in a woman's life. It is therefore essential to ensure that after it the mother allows her body much-needed regeneration, enough rest and nutrients. Quality food supplements can also help, which will replenish the body with vitamins and minerals, the need for which is now increasing.

What happens after birth?
The period after childbirth can be divided into 3 phases.
The first 6-12 hours after birth are characterized by rapid changes in the body with the possibility of immediate complications.

This is followed by a period of up to 2-6 weeks after birth. Great changes occur in the organism during this period as well. The genitourinary system recovers, metabolism, hemodynamics and emotions change. However, these changes are not as rapid as in the first hours after birth.

According to the literature, the last period can last up to 6 months. Changes during this phase are very gradual and the woman's body gradually returns to its pre-pregnancy state.

Postpartum care can be very different for each woman, depending on how long postpartum the woman is and whether she delivered the baby by spontaneous labor or caesarean section. This topic is very extensive and unfortunately not all information can fit into a short medallion. However, we have put together a few simple tips for you that may come in handy after giving birth.

Maintain a sufficient drinking regime , especially if you are breastfeeding. Prepare plenty of healthy and nutritious food ahead of time.

Put your hygiene first, thus reducing the risk of infection.
If you suffer from hemorrhoids (also a very common complication), it is recommended to increase your water and fiber intake, or try stool softeners, herbal baths or cooling compresses.

Rest when the baby sleeps , the mess will wait. :)
If you are tired, ask your friends and family to postpone the visit, they will understand.

Don't be afraid to ask for support if you need it. Accept help when offered.

Talk to your partner, family and friends about how you feel.

When the time is right, incorporate simple physical activity into each day. For example, daily walks with a stroller can be suitable.
If possible, take time for yourself . List a few activities you enjoyed doing before giving birth.

Connect with other new parents. It is a very demanding period in which you do your best. And remember, every mom is a hero. ❤️
